Round 1 of bottles

On Saturday Ty and I did our first round of bottles at the depot and we got back $130!!!  Hopefully we'll collect more bottles this week.  Every little bit helps as after talking to my mother she said that Sophie has to go to the hospital everyday this week.  Each time they go to the hospital it costs $1.50 just for the bridge.  With gas and parking it'll add up quickly.  Unfortunately Sophie is starting to show the effects of the chemo and medication.  Her hair is starting to fall out and her cheeks are puffy from the steroids she has to take.  Poor thing.
That's all for now.

Buckets for Sophie

My friend Andrea is making and selling these Halloween treat buckets to help raise funds for Sophie and family. They are $7 each in a variety of colors and characters. $5 from each bucket will be going to my brother Andrew and his wife Stephanie to help cover costs of Sophie's treatment.  The other $2 will go to cover materials.  Order early!  Please email me at dianna.eastcoastgirl@gmail.com with your orders.  For each bucket you buy your name is entered into a draw to win a half hour massage.

Thank you,

Bottle Drive for Sophie & family

On September 20th 5 days before a family trip to Disneyland my brother Andrew and his wife Stephanie were told that their 5 year old daughter, my niece, Sophie has cancer. They had found a large mass behind her lungs and spots on her kidneys. After very painful and gruelling tests they determined that she has T-cell Lymphoma cancer. Up until October 1st she was in the hospital with my brother by her side. Stephanie could not be there at all times as she had to care for their 3 month old baby Jack and their other son Johnny.

Sophie is now home but she and the family have a long hard road ahead of them. The doctors say she will have to endure chemotherapy for the next two years. She will have to go to the hospital twice a week. Every Monday for blood tests and every Thursday for chemotherapy. She will also be taking about 5 different medications. With the income being limited as Stephanie is on maternity leave my brother has decided to return to work instead of going on short term disability.

It's hard being far away from Andrew and his family as I'm in Alberta and they as well as the rest of my family are in Nova Scotia. Since I can't be there for emotional support and lend a hand wherever I can I thought I'd try to help ease their unexpected financial strain by collecting money through a bottle drive. So I'm asking all of you who have bottles lying around if you would be willing to donate them. All you have to do is let me know where to pick them up and we'll come by either in the evening or on the weekend.

I hope you are all having a great Thanksgiving weekend. Please keep revisiting this blog as we will be organizing more ways to raise money. We are currently working on a quilt raffle, craft sale and a spa/ladies day.

Thank you for your support and taking the time to read our story.
